Christians need to avoid misplaced affections, especially when it comes to their relationship with God.

Christians need to be extremely aware of misplaced affections, especially concerning misplaced affections meant only for God. Our society is growing increasingly more materialistic, with a focus on self instead of on God. We have forsaken our first love, and traded that which is good for that which is evil and detestable in God's eyes.
We all have an "inner void" that only God can truly fill. We can try to fill that void with other things and people, but nothing will ever satisfy us except for our one and true Creator, who is God. An example is the people who have everything this material world can offer (money and riches), but yet are utterly miserable, unhappy and depressed. Without God, we are nothing. Only He can truly complete us!
Our Reasonable Service
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1.
Focus On Things Above, Not Things Below
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:1-17.
The Devil Tries To Temporarily Reverse The Sin Curse
The devil is trying to deceive people today into thinking that the sin curse has been reversed, which was instituted by God against mankind, and resulted in the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The enemy wants the world to believe that there are no consequences for sin in our lives today. This makes a mockery of what Christ came to do for us regarding paying the price for our sins. If we are not under the sin curse, as the devil wants the world to believe, then Christ came in vain to die for our sins and be our Savior.
While technology, fast food, and time-saving conveniences can be a real blessing sometimes, they can also serve to lure people away from the God. We all need to be careful to avoid the deception that can come with the benefits that modern conveniences and technology bring. The devil wants us to be deceived into thinking that we are no longer under a sin curse, and that we can do whatever we like here in this life, without any consequences for our thoughts or actions. He wants to "soften the blow" of sin to make it acceptable today.
While some of the symptoms of the sin curse may not be as evident today due to the many pleasures that have been provided for us, the penalty for engaging in sin is real and has not been erased by Christ or anyone else. We can have forgiveness for our sins through Christ, but those people who continue to engage in sin are still under the penalty for their sins. If left unforgiven, sins will result in eternal separation from God, in Hell.

Everything Hinges On Our Love For God And Our Love For Other People
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:37-40.
Our misplaced affections intended only for God will lead us astray from His Truth. Unless we truly repent from our sins, and seek God with all our heart and soul, we shall be led astray by our own lusts and fleshly desires.
We must treat others with respect and love as God has commanded, and forgive them of all trespasses, otherwise we risk losing our soul to Hell for all manner of sins that we engage in and are consumed with.May we never again have our affections for God misplaced. May we worship Him in spirit and in truth, and be faithful to Him, forevermore!
